Before he leaves, Beverly shares with Harriet that Jefferson keeps no written record of his supposed children -- only in the lists with his other slaves. Why is this relevant to the siblings?
What is the effect of keeping a written record of things? What are some of the ways that you and/or your family write things down?

It's relevant to the siblings because when they grow up to the point where they starts to understand things, they'll know that they're just slaves. Jefferson just put their names in the slave list and nothing more and nothing less. It just means Jefferson is just keeping a record of all his slaves. When people grow up and read records from a while back, they'll understand why their name is on there and for what reason. The effect of keeping a record of written things is that so you can go back and look it up if you forget a record. You don't have to remember it in your head because you'll end up forgetting so people write it down.
Me and my family writes things down in books, calendars, scrap papers, and etc. If it's easy to remember then we'll put it in our heads. We also put it in our cellular phones since we carry it around with us all the time and it's easy to look it up in a cell phone.
Jefferson put the Hemmings family down in slave records because that is what they are to him, even though he treats them better then the other slaves because they are mulatto, and could be related to him. Their siblings will know where they come from, even though they are mulatto, they still are very much black, and cosidered slaves at that time. This is all about Jefferson keeping track of his slaves, so he knows how many slaves he has.
My family keeps track of each other by family reuions and photo albums, old records, during our family reuions we have a book given out with our family tree extending from the 1800's..and maybe before all the way to now, yes it is important to know where you come from, so keep we keep track of our family.
I think it's relevant for the siblings to know that because it could encourage them to leave Monticello. Throughout the book, Harriet wanted to be free, but didn't want to leave her mother. Sally is going to be there until she dies, but maybe that piece of info helped her change her mind.
The effect of keeping a record of things is that you could trace back to where you came from. Many people would want to know about their history.
My family puts things in photo albums, booklets of our family history, such as the The Ellison Family Tree, and videos for when we go on family reunion trips and parties.
It is relevent for the sibilings because without the written record they won't know for sure if they're Jefferson's children.Since there is no written record Harriet thinks she's nothing more than a slave,so it's better for her to leave Monticello and be a free woman. My family write things in scrap books, and on family trees. They also keep videos of important events.
It is relevant to them because it is written for memories. It just a way to keep track of his slaves.
Writing things down for record so they could look back for memories or to remind them something.
I write things down on my time tracker to remind myself what i have to do for homework.
It is relevant to the siblings because despite what their mother or anyone else says they have to abide by what Jefferson says they are to him, slaves.Jefferson realizies that they are far more than just slaves but society will not allow him to give them the recognition they deserve. So when the siblings are old enough to understand the life of a slave in society they will see that his writing their names in the book as slaves was just society talking.
The effect of writing things is way of referring back to previous information that may help you in the long run. My family and keep things on our calenders and sometime we use notes in our phones.
it is relevent for the siblings because they want to know if Thomas Jefferson is really their father. The effect of keeping a written record of thing can keep thing in order and you could find things without any trouble. My family would write down the height of each child every year. they also write down all the childrens firsts.
I think it is relevant to the siblings because Jefferson put there names on the slave list casue they still are slaves to matter what. Even tho Jefferson still treats the Hemmings better then the other slaves they still are considered slaves at this time. My family keeps all inpotant info in agenda books and calenders like i do with my timetracker.
The Hemmings family are written in the slave list because that is what they are. It is smart that jefferson keeps a slave list so he could keep track of all his slaves and know how many he has.It relevant to the siblings because when they grow up they know their just slaves.
My family keep of each other by phone, visit each other and reunion.
It is relevant to the slaves because it'll show the future generation who the Hemmings were.Even though they were well-treated slaves, the fact of the matter is that that they were still slaves , perioD .The effect of keeping a record of things is to reveal information about the past. For example,if you want to trace your family history, you'll need a record of information from back then. I write things in my time tracker to remind myself of homework that i have to do.I used to write in a diary when i was younger just to talk about important things that happened to me when i was a child. My family has a photo album for remeberance of people that passed and people that are still living. We also video tape events so that one day we'll look back and reminisce.
